Outdoor Sconce Considerations

Saturday, January 9th, 2010

An outdoor sconce can be used to provide home lighting to the exterior of homes.  However, before homeowners invest in outdoor sconces, they will want to make certain the outdoor sconce they choose is specifically designed for exterior use to ensure that the sconce can safely withstand the moisture and other natural elements to which it will be exposed. Additionally, it is a good idea for consumers to check the energy rating for the fixture and select an outdoor wall sconce that has been rated to be energy efficient.

An outdoor sconce that has been rated to be energy efficient will save energy, cost less to use, and tends to be better for the natural environment.  Additionally, consumers may wish to consider purchasing an outdoor sconce that has been certified by Underwriters Laboratories (UL).  Underwriters Laboratories is an independent product safety certification organization, that independently tests products for safety standards.

Outdoor sconce lights can be used in many exterior areas of residences.  Most obviously, they can be used for lighting home entry areas.  Consumers have a variety of styles and finishes from which to choose.  Selecting a style that directs the light downward may be helpful if there are steps at the entrance of the property.  Consumers may also wish to consider placing an outdoor wall sconce on each side of the door in order to provide sufficient habitat lighting for safety purposes.

A patio may also be a good place to install outdoor sconces.  While entertaining, homeowners may want to have the patio well lit.  On the other hand, the homeowner might prefer a softly illuminated space for an evening of relaxation.  A dimmer switch is also an option available to consumers, to help control the intensity of light emitted by the outdoor sconce light at any given moment.  If consumers choose to install a dimmer switch, they will want to make sure that it is compatible with the outdoor sconce fixture they are choosing to install.

The use of an outdoor sconce is not limited to the entrance or patio area of homes  If homeowners have a carport or a detached garage, they may want to consider installing an outdoor sconce there.  Placing an outdoor sconce on either side of the carport or garage entrance can be both decorative and functional.  Moreover, if homeowners have an attractive garden shed or additional storage building in their yard, they may be able to use an outdoor sconce to illuminate that area at night.

These are just a few ideas where outdoor wall sconces may potentially be used and enjoyed on residential property.  Homeowners may wish to look on the Internet for additional information.  Moreover, lighting websites often provide pictures of outdoor sconces available for purchase, potentially helping homeowners visually with options available.

Candle Sconces – Enjoying The Candle Sconce

Thursday, December 31st, 2009

Candle sconces have been used for hundreds of years to provide light.  In years past, the candle sconce was used as a source of habitat lighting, since the modern comfort of electricity was not yet available.  Nonetheless, candle sconces can be used in current modern times, despite the availability of electricity to provide home lighting, to create the ambiance that only candle light offers.

Indeed, candle sconces can provide illumination and create a romantic  peaceful atmosphere  in living spaces.  Moreover, since the light is provided by candle light, no electricity is involved, which makes installing a wall sconce candle holder relatively easy and inexpensive to use and enjoy.  Candle sconces can be used for lighting home interiors and exteriors.

However, as is necessary with all objects that use any form of  candle light, precautions must be taken to ensure safety.  For example, the candle light should be blown out before going to bed or leaving the house, and special attention must be given if children and/or pets are in the house when the candle sconce is lit.  Moreover,  if the wind is blowing, caution must also be taken with outdoor candle scones.  As previously noted, these are some examples of cautions to be taken when using candle sconces.

Nonetheless, with the proper implementation of safety precautions, many styles of candle wall sconces are available to enjoy in different rooms of the home and garden.  In fact, consumers who are considering using candle wall sconces in their home may wish to look on the internet, as many lighting stores display pictures of different candle sconces available for purchase, potentially visually assisting consumers with options to consider.  Indeed, the candle sconce may be a good choice to create a peaceful romantic ambiance as long as precautions are taken, to avoid accidents.   Enjoy.

Wall Sconces: Candle Wall Sconces, Outdoor Wall Sconces and General Wall Sconces

Tuesday, September 22nd, 2009

Wall scones are decorative light fixtures attached to walls to provide illumination. Thus, wall sconces can provide home lighting and decor.  Wall sconce lighting has been used for hundreds of years.  The original style of the  wall sconce fixture was a candle wall sconce used for lighting home interiors and other spaces at night.

Today, candle wall sconces are available among many other choices of wall sconce habitat lighting.   Wall sconces are available in different sizes, shapes, and styles,  adding ambiance to living spaces and potentially complementing the decor of  homes.  Specifically, a wall sconce can provide task lighting, general lighting, background lighting, and accent lighting.   Thus, wall sconces can provide directional lighting for tasks, general lighting for the entire room, background lighting for lighting needs that require less light, and accent lighting to highlight furniture and artwork, among other possibilities.

Moreover, wall sconces can be used as a single lamp in living spaces.  Wall sconces can also be used in pairs.  And wall sconces can be used in multiples, such as in long stairways and hallways.  Additionally, wall sconces can be used to complement other lighting already present in the home.

Libraries, bedrooms, living rooms, dining rooms, bathrooms, kitchens, and foyers are among the home living spaces where wall sconces can be placed.  As previously mentioned, wall sconces can also be used in hallways and staircases.  However, when wall sconces are specifically placed in hallways and staircases, homeowners want to be careful that the fixtures do not stick out too much, so as to avoid bumping against them.

Wall sconces are also available for home exteriors.   Similar to indoor wall sconces, outdoor wall sconces can enhance the appearance of property by  providing light to the outside of homes.  This factor can possibly enhance the home living experience by being able to see and enjoy property features at night, as well as perhaps expand the property area that can be used and enjoyed after sunset.  Outdoor wall sconces can also add security to the property by merely adding light to the residence.  Additionally, these lighting  fixtures can add safety by illuminating the exterior of properties, helping to avoid accidental falls.

Homeowners will want to keep in mind, however, that the electrical requirements of  electrical wall sconces are specific, so homeowners will want to check to make sure the correct wiring is in place before purchasing electrical wall sconces.  Once this factor has been taken care of, wall sconces can provide many options for lighting both the interior and exterior of homes.
