Hampton Bay Ceiling Fans

Sunday, February 27th, 2011

Hampton Bay is the in-house brand name of products manufactured for the Home Depot stores. Hampton Bay ceiling fans are available in different styles, finishes, and sizes, to consumers shopping in the United States. In fact, Hampton Bay ceiling fans are available to complement just about any room decor and living space, whether the ceiling fan will be used for the interior or exterior of homes.

However, it is important for consumers to consider the location where the fan will be installed. In other words, will the ceiling fan be installed indoors or outdoors? The reason it is important to consider this factor is the fact that outdoor ceiling fans will be exposed to the natural elements, and as such, need to be designed for outdoor use to ensure safety.

As stated above, ceiling fans manufactured by Hampton Bay are available in many designs, including options that have been listed as being ENERGY STAR compliant. Fans that have met ENERGY STAR’ s energy efficiency standards are significantly more energy efficient than ceiling fans that are not energy efficient. This energy efficiency translates into energy savings, which translates into lower electric bills for consumers. Additionally, given that less electricity will be consumed when compared to non-energy efficient designs, the planet and mother nature also benefit.

When shopping for a Hampton Bay ceiling fan, consumers may also wish to consider the quality of the motor and blades of the Hampton Bay fixture, and look for fixtures that offer a quiet wobble-free operation.

Another option consumers may wish to consider when purchasing a ceiling fan is whether or not the fan has lights or is  light-kit compatible.  A fan that is designed to include lights adds general habitat lighting to the room. A fixture that is light-kit compatible already has the wiring in the fixture and lights can be added. However, some fixtures are only compatible with the same manufacturer’s light kits.  In other words, with Hampton Bay fans, Hampton Bay fan kits need to be used.

Moreover, if the fixture has lights, does the consumer want it to work with a dimmer switch?  And if so, is the fixture designed to be compatible with the dimmer switch?

Some benefits of installing ceiling fans include the following:

1. They can help cool the living space, while costing less to use when compared to using air conditioners.

2. They can also help keep the living space warmer during the winter, if the fixture is designed to do so.

3. If keeping the windows closed is preferable due, for example, to safety concerns, Hampton Bay lighting fans, as well as all ceiling fans, can help to keep the air circulating and cooler.

Hampton Bay ceiling fans have their motor housing pre-assembled for easier installation. Moreover, the blades tend to slide and lock into place.

Additionally, Hampton Bay ceiling fan remote options offer a remote control feature for turning the fixture on and off. This feature can indeed add ease of use and convenience to the fixture.

Consumers may also wish to keep in mind how simple or intricate the exterior of the fixture is when shopping for Hampton Bay ceiling fans, given that the less intricate the fixture, the easier it will tend to be to keep clean.

Chandelier Lamp Shades – Five Considerations

Friday, March 5th, 2010

Chandeliers may provide the type and style of home lighting that homeowners seek.  However, many choices are available from which to choose in terms of style, size, materials, and designs when purchasing a chandelier for lighting home interiors and exteriors.  Moreover, some chandeliers have lamp shades to cover the bulbs, while other designs do not include lamp shades. This article briefly discusses five factors regarding lamp shades for chandeliers consumers may wish to consider when purchasing chandeliers that have lamp shades included in their design.

(1) Is the chandelier for indoor or outdoor use?  Outdoor chandeliers will need to be designed for outdoor use for safety purposes related to weather. As such, if the chandelier is for outdoor use, the chandelier lamp shades should also be made for outdoor use, given their exposure to the outdoor elements such as mist, rain, snow, fog, wind, etc.

(2) If the chandelier lighting is going to be used outdoors, consumers may want to consider the design of the chandelier lamp shade and consider purchasing a chandelier that uses lamp shades that are designed in such a way that it is more difficult for the lamp to collect insects and outdoor debris.

(3) How many light bulbs does the chandelier have? This factor will determine the number of chandelier lamp shades the chandelier lighting fixture is designed to use.

(4) Does the consumer like the design and color of the lamp shades that are included with the habitat lighting fixture, or will they purchase different lamp shades that they like better?

(5)  Does the consumer want the lamp shades to complement the design of the chandelier? Does the consumer want the lamp shades to complement the living space in which they will be used? Or does the consumer prefer a more eclectic style and feel to the light fixture and room?

Moreover, in some instances, homeowners may wish to replace the lamp shades on their existing chandelier instead of replacing the entire lighting fixture. Replacing the chandelier lamp shades can change the decor and ambiance of the living space in which the chandelier is hung, and in some cases cost less than replacing the entire lighting fixture.

One last thought, given all the choices in chandelier lamp shades, consumers may wish to first search on the Internet to become better informed of the options available when it comes to purchasing lamp shades for chandeliers.  Enjoy.

Ceiling Light: Considering Ceiling Lights

Monday, November 16th, 2009

Ceiling light provides general lighting, which is also oftentimes referred to as ambient lighting. Many styles and designs of ceiling light are available for home lighting.  This article presents brief information about six styles of ceiling lights available for lighting home interiors, in addition to presenting other information consumers may wish to consider prior to purchasing  this type of habitat lighting.  The six styles of ceiling light are as follows:

(1) The flush mount ceiling light, which is designed to have no space between the ceiling light fixture and the ceiling.  These lights tend to be a good choice for rooms with low ceilings, where hanging light fixtures would be awkward or impractical due to the low ceiling.

(2) The semi flush ceiling light, which is designed to hang lights just a little distance from the ceiling.  This style of ceiling light is in between full mounted ceiling lights which are flush with the ceiling,  and lights designed to hang.

(3) The hanging lights, which as the name suggests, hang from the ceiling. Examples of hanging lights include the pendant, and the indoor and outdoor chandelier. Hanging lights can bring the light source closer into the room.

(4) The recessed ceiling lights, which are lights that are fixed into the ceiling.  These lights can be a good option in rooms where the ceilings are low and where lights designed to hang may not fit, or be awkward due to the low ceiling.

(5) Track lighting, which is designed to provide much flexibility with lighting, including the direction and intensity of the light used.

(6) Ceiling fans with lights, which in addition to offering light and decor, also offer additional functionality, especially during hot days. For example, some Hampton Bay ceiling fans offer different features for consumer enjoyment.

Ceiling lights do not take-up floor space, so consumers may want to consider this factor when considering  the type of  light they wish to use in the living space.  Consequently, ceiling lights may be complementary to small rooms among other room sizes, and may also help create an open feeling to the living space.

Another factor consumers may wish to consider prior to purchasing ceiling lighting is whether or not the ceiling light fixture is rated to be energy efficient.  Modern ceiling lights often offer energy efficiency.   Energy efficient ceiling lights fixtures use less energy than comparable non-energy efficient ceiling fixtures.  This factor usually results in less energy usage and consequently lower energy bills.  Additionally, ceiling lights that are rated to be energy efficient are also reportedly better for the natural environment.

Lastly, consumers may wish to research their choices of ceiling light prior to purchase.  A good place to commence their search is on the internet.  Lighting stores often provide information and pictures of different ceiling light available, and thus provide consumers with visual assistance of the options.  Enjoy.

Ceiling Lights With Fans

Monday, October 5th, 2009

Home lighting can significantly influence the look and functionality of any room in homes.  Clearly, lighting allows homeowners to see at night and to participate in various activities due to the illumination provided by the habitat lighting fixtures. More specifically, ceiling lights offer both functionality and decor. Ceiling lights provide general lighting, which is oftentimes referred to as ambient lighting.  Ceiling lights with fans offer additional functionality.  This article provides information on indoor ceiling lights that also have fans as part of their design.

As previously noted, ceiling fan lights offer decor and added functionality as compared to regular ceiling lights. Ceiling fan light offers both light and the added benefit of adding comfort to the living space during hot and cold days, as explained below.  Ceiling fans with lights can be used in different rooms of homes, including bedrooms, kitchens, dining rooms, living rooms, and family rooms.  Moreover, ceiling fan lighting  is available in many styles and designs, allowing the option to complement home decor.

Functions: In addition to providing light and decor, a ceiling fan light fixture offers  the possibility of  making rooms cooler in the summer by improving airflow, and warmer in the winter by improving heat distribution with designs that offer this feature as part of the ceiling lighting fixture.  Also, ceiling fans with lights offer the possibility of using the air conditioner less, thus potentially reducing energy costs.

Options:  While conventional ceiling fan lights operate with pull cords, newer models offer additional options.  For example, wall controls enable home owners to turn fans on and off or to adjust fan speed without having to pull on the ceiling fan light cord.  Dimmer switches allow homeowners to control the light intensity in the room with the wall switch.  Remote controls allow homeowners to control ceiling lighting fixtures by remote, allowing the option to turn the light and/or fan on and off, and to control the fan speed.  Additionally, some ceiling fans with lights come mostly pre-assembled, offering easier installation.

Energy Efficiency:  Some ceiling fan lights are rated to be energy efficient.  Ceiling light fixtures that have an energy efficient rating, such as ceiling lights with the ENERGY STAR rating, are designed to reduce energy consumption and energy costs.  Thus, ceiling fans with lights that are rated to be energy efficient are designed to ensure efficient operation and cost effectiveness. For example, Hampton Bay ceiling fans offer several options of ENERGY STAR rated ceiling fans.

Size of Fan: It is a good idea to measure the room where the ceiling light will be installed and to then select a fan size designed for the room size.  Installing a ceiling fan light with a fan that is not large enough for the room dimensions will not effectively circulate the air in the room.

Ceiling Types:  Ceiling type can also influence the design of the ceiling light that will best be suited for the particular ceiling style.  For example, an angled, low, or high ceiling requires a ceiling light fixture designed for these types of ceilings, in order for the ceiling fan lights to function properly.

Installation:  Often, the ceiling fan light replaces the lighter ceiling light that is installed in the center of the room.  When homeowners replace regular ceiling lights with ceiling lights that have a fan, the weight of the ceiling fan fixture must be considered for proper and safe installation. Ceiling light fixtures designed with fans are heavy and as such, require particular attention to proper installation to ensure safety.

Quality:  As with most products, quality of ceiling fans with lights vary.  For example, the quality of the motor of the ceiling fan can effect the loudness and vibration of the fan when in use.  As such, homeowners may find it helpful to research ceiling lighting prior to purchase.  Sometimes, homeowners can find reviews of ceiling lights on the internet to help with product selection. Moreover, homeowners may wish to start their search of ceiling light fixtures on the internet, as many stores that sell ceiling lights offer pictures of ceiling fans with lights, assisting homeowners visually with options available for lighting home interiors.  Additionally, these websites often provide helpful product information.

Pendant Lighting: Enjoying Pendant Lights

Sunday, September 27th, 2009

Pendant lighting has been used for hundreds of years. Pendant lights are lights that are hung from the ceiling. Today, pendant lighting offers many options for decor, ambiance creation, and for lighting home interiors. This article offers brief information about pendant home lighting.

Pendant lighting  can be used for task lighting in areas of homes that need concentrated light. Pendant lighting can be used for accent lighting to highlight a feature of the room.  Or pendant lighting fixtures can be used for general habitat lighting in rooms.  Moreover, adding a dimmer switch that controls the intensity of the pendant light can provide more options for light control, given that the light intensity can be set for bright light to accomplish tasks, or to dim light to create a calm soothing ambiance, or to degrees of lighting in between bright and dim.  Homeowners just want to make sure that the light dimmer switch is compatible with the lighting  being used.

Pendant lighting can be hung as a single light fixture, or they can be used as multiple light fixtures.  Pendant light fixtures are available as mini-pendants, up-light pendants (focusing the light upward),  and down-light pendants (focusing the light downward), among many other choices.   The options are plentiful.  Moreover, designs available vary from the simple to ornate and many options in between.  For example, pendant lighting can be a simple hanging lamp with a bulb, or pendant lights can be designed with crystals.

Pendant lighting also offers much versatility when it comes to light location in homes. Pendant ceiling light can be used in most rooms of the home, including living rooms, dining rooms, foyers, kitchens, bedrooms, and studies, among other areas.  Pendant lighting can provide illumination to areas of the room that might be difficult to light.  Additionally, pendant lighting does not take up floor space or table-top space, leaving more room for furniture or the option to create a more open feel to the room.  Moreover, unlike recessed lighting and sconce lighting that may require additional work for installation, pendant lighting tends to be easier to install.

Given the various options of design, style, and size offered by pendant lighting, homeowners may wish to search the internet for lighting stores that offer pendant lighting, as often many pictures of pendant lights are displayed, giving the viewer visual assistance with what is available.  Additionally, sometimes reviews of pendant lighting are available on the internet.  Indeed, pendant lighting may be the type of lighting the homeowner seeks.
