Tiffany Lamps: Quality Considerations

March 27th, 2010

Tiffany lamps provide splendid home lighting as well as art work for homes.   Indeed, lighting home interiors with Tiffany lamps can add a special decor to the living space. Louis Comfort Tiffany founded Tiffany Studios in New York where the Tiffany lamps were made during the late 1800′s and the beginning of the 1900′s.

Original Tiffany lamps were designed and made by hand using many pieces of high quality stained glass.  Designs tended to depict geometric shapes and motifs of nature.  Today, genuine Tiffany lamps are considered antiques and sell for many thousands of dollars.

Luckily for common consumers, Tiffany reproduction lamps are available for purchase at prices many consumers are able to afford.   The well made Tiffany reproduction lamps aim to replicate the original designs and quality, using high quality stained glass and materials.

Also available to consumers are Tiffany style lamps that are not made with quality.  For example, some Tiffany style lamps use plastics in place of high quality stained glass.  For consumers who compare a Tiffany reproduction lamp that has high quality stained glass with a Tiffany style lamp that uses plastic instead of high quality stained glass, the difference is quite noticeable.  In fact, the two are not really comparable.

Nonetheless, both high quality Tiffany reproduction lamps and poor quality Tiffany style lamps are available to consumers for habitat lighting, and as such, consumers may wish to be well informed about Tiffany style lamps prior to purchasing one.

Luckily, the Internet provides information about Tiffany lamps, including pictures of styles that are available for purchase.  However, even though the Internet may be a good place to commence shopping for a Tiffany style lamp, shopping for a lamp in person allows consumers the option to closely examine the quality and detail of  the lamps prior to purchasing one.
