Candle Sconces – Enjoying The Candle Sconce

Thursday, December 31st, 2009

Candle sconces have been used for hundreds of years to provide light.  In years past, the candle sconce was used as a source of habitat lighting, since the modern comfort of electricity was not yet available.  Nonetheless, candle sconces can be used in current modern times, despite the availability of electricity to provide home lighting, to create the ambiance that only candle light offers.

Indeed, candle sconces can provide illumination and create a romantic  peaceful atmosphere  in living spaces.  Moreover, since the light is provided by candle light, no electricity is involved, which makes installing a wall sconce candle holder relatively easy and inexpensive to use and enjoy.  Candle sconces can be used for lighting home interiors and exteriors.

However, as is necessary with all objects that use any form of  candle light, precautions must be taken to ensure safety.  For example, the candle light should be blown out before going to bed or leaving the house, and special attention must be given if children and/or pets are in the house when the candle sconce is lit.  Moreover,  if the wind is blowing, caution must also be taken with outdoor candle scones.  As previously noted, these are some examples of cautions to be taken when using candle sconces.

Nonetheless, with the proper implementation of safety precautions, many styles of candle wall sconces are available to enjoy in different rooms of the home and garden.  In fact, consumers who are considering using candle wall sconces in their home may wish to look on the internet, as many lighting stores display pictures of different candle sconces available for purchase, potentially visually assisting consumers with options to consider.  Indeed, the candle sconce may be a good choice to create a peaceful romantic ambiance as long as precautions are taken, to avoid accidents.   Enjoy.

Tiffany Lamp: Considering Tiffany Lamps

Tuesday, December 22nd, 2009

The name Tiffany is at times associated with the well known jewelry business, Tiffany and Company.  What some people may not realize is that the founder of Tiffany and Company was the father of Louis Comfort Tiffany, well known in the stained glass world.  This brief article presents information about the Tiffany lamps created by Tiffany Studios in New York, and the stained glass lamps resembling Tiffany lamps subsequently created elsewhere.

The lamps created by Tiffany Studios at the end of the nineteenth century and beginning of the twentieth century are indeed pieces of art.  These Tiffany lamps did not only provide home lighting and illumination for establishments, they also provided unique artwork for homes using the finest type of art glass.

Louis Tiffany was known to use  the discarded pieces of high quality stained glass he used when designing  home interiors, to create hand made lamp shades.  The intricate lamp shades designed by Tiffany Studios had natural and geometric themes, including flowers, dragonflies, peacock feathers, rectangles, squares, and ovals, among other designs.

Thus, the themes of the Tiffany lamp shade leaned toward nature and geometric shapes.  The high quality lamps produced by Tiffany Studios is illustrated when one considers the seven following factors describing how the Tiffany lamps were made:

1. High quality stained glass was used to make Tiffany lamp shades.

2. The glass was  hand cut to the precision of the design for which the stained glass pieces were going to be used.

3. The lamp was hand made.

4. Copper foil solution was applied to the ends of each individual piece of  glass to bond the pieces of stained glass together.

5.  All the pieces of stained glass that were used to make Tiffany lamp shades were soldered together by hand.

6.  The glass was polished by hand.

7. High quality bronze was used for the base of the Tiffany lamp.

Some readers may ask, what is the difference between an original Tiffany lamp produced by Tiffany Studios, a Tiffany reproduction lamp, and a Tiffany style lamp?  Well, to start, the seven factors mentioned above help distinguish the high quality Tiffany lamps from the low quality Tiffany lamps.

Moreover, the original Tiffany lamps are antiques and were produced by Tiffany Studios at the end of the 1800′s and beginning of the 1900′s.   These Tiffany lamps sell for many thousands of dollars.

By comparison, Tiffany reproduction lamps are reproductions of  original Tiffany lamps.  In other words,  genuine Tiffany reproduction lamps are designed to look just like an original Tiffany lamp.  High quality materials and workmanship are used.  However, Tiffany reproduction lamps sell for many thousands of dollars less  than the Tiffany lamps made at the Tiffany Studio during the late 1800′s and early 1900′s.

In contrast, lamps that are sold as Tiffany style lamps are often machine made with poor quality materials, such as plastic pieces.  While this practice may be  done in an attempt to imitate the glass pieces of the well made lamps, there is really no comparison in quality.  However, because these lamps are not made by hand and with high quality materials, these lamps tend to cost significantly less than Tiffany reproduction lamps.

Another category of lamp that falls under the Tiffany style lamp is one that uses higher quality materials than the lamps that have plastic materials.  However, these higher quality lamps have differences in design when compared with original Tiffany lamps and Tiffany reproduction lamps.

It may also be helpful for consumers to know that not all stained glass lamps are Tiffany lamps.  One distinguishing  aspect of  a Tiffany lamp is that it tends to have hundreds of pieces of glass in its design, and as previously noted, is of high quality.

Given all the choices in purchase options of Tiffany reproduction lamps and Tiffany style lamps available to consumers for lighting home interiors, consumers may wish to be well informed about the differences mentioned above, before purchasing a Tiffany reproduction or a Tiffany style lamp. Original Tiffany lamps are beyond the purchase possibilities for most consumers, given the many thousands of dollars for which an original Tiffany lamp sells. However, as mentioned above, other options to provide habitat lighting with the Tiffany inspired style are available.

Candle Chandelier – Two Types To Enjoy

Monday, December 7th, 2009

The candle chandelier has been used for many years.  In fact, the candlestick chandelier was the first style of chandelier for lighting home interiors and exteriors. Candles were used with both the indoor and outdoor chandelier. Chandeliers have since evolved into many styles and designs, although candle chandeliers are still available today to provide home lighting.

Basically, two types of the candle light chandelier are available these days.  The genuine candle burning style, and the candle chandelier that uses simulated candle light, using light bulbs.  Both types of candle chandeliers are available to help consumers create the ambiance they wish to create in their homes.  Indeed, candle light can help create a relaxing peaceful ambiance. However,  for the consumer who is not comfortable having candles burning in their home for safety purposes and/or because they have children and/or pets or for other reasons, candle chandeliers that use simulated candle light may be a good choice to create the ambiance and habitat lighting consumers wish to create in their homes.

As previously mentioned, simulated candle chandeliers use light bulbs to simulate real candle light.  Moreover, for consumers who wish to use simulated candle light instead of candle sticks for illumination, they may also wish to consider purchasing  a candle simulated chandelier that is energy efficient, as energy efficient chandeliers will use less energy and help save on energy bills. Moreover, using less electricity tends to be better for the natural environment.

Additionally, choosing to enjoy a simulated candle light chandelier instead of a candle chandelier that uses burning candles, allows the homeowner more options in selecting the intensity of light emitted by the chandelier at any given moment.   By merely installing a dimmer switch that is compatible with the simulated candle chandelier, the homeowner has the option to set the dimmer switch to dim, bright, or degrees of lighting  in between dim and bright.

A good place to shop for candle chandeliers is on the Internet. In fact, the Home Depot store, which is a large home improvement store, has an in-house brand of chandelier called the Hampton Bay Chandelier . Perhaps consumers will find a candle chandelier offered by the Home Depot stores they like. Additionally, there are other online lighting stores that sell candle chandeliers.

Indeed, candle chandeliers are still available, albeit with updated designs and options to help homeowners create the candle chandelier lighting they would like for their homes.  Enjoy.
