Ceiling Light: Considering Ceiling Lights

by admin on November 16, 2009

Ceiling light provides general lighting, which is also oftentimes referred to as ambient lighting. Many styles and designs of ceiling light are available for home lighting.  This article presents brief information about six styles of ceiling lights available for lighting home interiors, in addition to presenting other information consumers may wish to consider prior to purchasing  this type of home lighting. The six styles of ceiling light are as follows:

(1) The flush mount ceiling light, which is designed to have no space between the ceiling light fixture and the ceiling.  These lights tend to be a good choice for rooms with low ceilings, where hanging light fixtures would be awkward or impractical due to the low ceiling.

(2) The semi flush ceiling light, which is designed to hang lights just a little distance from the ceiling.  This style of ceiling light is in between full mounted ceiling lights which are flush with the ceiling,  and lights designed to hang.

(3) The hanging lights, which as the name suggests, hang from the ceiling. Examples of hanging lights include the pendant, and the indoor and outdoor chandelier. Hanging lights can bring the light source closer into the room.

(4) The recessed ceiling lights, which are lights that are fixed into the ceiling.  These lights can be a good option in rooms where the ceilings are low and where lights designed to hang may not fit, or be awkward due to the low ceiling.

(5) Track lighting, which is designed to provide much flexibility with lighting, including the direction and intensity of the light used.

(6) Ceiling fans with lights, which in addition to offering light and decor, also offer additional functionality, especially during hot days. For example, some Hampton Bay ceiling fans offer different features for consumer enjoyment.

Ceiling lights do not take-up floor space, so consumers may want to consider this factor when considering  the type of  light they wish to use in the living space.  Consequently, ceiling lights may be complementary to small rooms among other room sizes, and may also help create an open feeling to the living space.

Another factor consumers may wish to consider prior to purchasing ceiling lighting is whether or not the ceiling light fixture is rated to be energy efficient.  Modern ceiling lights often offer energy efficiency.   Energy efficient ceiling lights fixtures use less energy than comparable non-energy efficient ceiling fixtures.  This factor usually results in less energy usage and consequently lower energy bills.  Additionally, ceiling lights that are rated to be energy efficient are also reportedly better for the natural environment.

Lastly, consumers may wish to research their choices of ceiling light prior to purchase.  A good place to commence their search is on the internet.  Lighting stores often provide information and pictures of different ceiling light available, and thus provide consumers with visual assistance of the options.  Enjoy.
